IRC
is Internet Relay Chat. If you haven't used it before
it's name can be deceiving. There are many chat rooms,
but there are also rooms where people share files. IRC
is the place your most likely to find a certain song.
Or one you have just about given up on finding. There
are many people with giant collections. All at your
finger tips. First you need an IRC program. Go to mirc.com,
download and install the mIRC program. You can get it
from our Utilities section. Most
likely you will need the 32 bit version. You are free
to use any other irc program, but i recommend this one.
Start
the program. The first thing you need to do is click
on File. Then go to Options if it's not already open.
Then go Down to Sounds. Then Request, remove the check
from box next to (Send '!nick file' as private message)
. This is a must if your gonna be successful downloading
files in IRC.

Now
make up some stuff to put in the name's and email address
boxes. Ok to find mp3's I recommend you start by connecting
to DALnet. But later Undernet , Efnet are also good.
You can also find Mp3 Rooms in almost all the different
networks. Now Connect! Just go with random server for
now.
*A
few quick note's before you connect to IRC. First you
must be connected to the internet via your Internet
Service Provider to connect to IRC. *Select a Very unusual
nickname. Many nicknames are registered in the various
networks. If you chose one that is already being used
Your will be change by the network to "Guest125067"
or something close. If you use any of these symbols,
^ or a number in your nick it will help you have a unique
nickname. Example Wizard_5 or^^Wizardl5^^.
Now
that your connected let's get down to business. Click
on the 4th icon from the left on your tool bar. A window
like the one in the picture below will popup. In the
match text: window type mp3. And Click on Get List!
Now a list will come up of all the mp3 rooms. Pick out
a room from the list and double click on it in the list
and you will join the room. Now that your in the room
what to do. Well the people with the @ symbols next
to their nicknames are the operators of the channel.
For a few minutes just read what's going on in the room.
ok let's say we are looking for a song by a band called
the "Sash". So now type @locator Sash in the channel
window. Or type @find Sash. Find is used on the undernet,
locator on dalnet, some of the networks accept both.
If you want a specific song by the Sash named "Adelante".
So to narrow our search you would type @Locator Sash
Adelante. If anyone in the room has the song your looking
for. In this case "fun time". You will get a reply from
their script. Which normally will open a small box at
the top of the window. Lets say a person with the nick
" DJ_Pixel " has the song .The window from him will
say something like this.To receive this file from me
type: !DJ_Pixel Sash - Adelante.mp3

The
easiest way to get this file is to copy and paste it
to your command line. Hold your right mouse key down
and drag your pointer across the !DJ_Pixel Sash - Adelante.mp3
. Now click your cursor back to the command line , while
holding the shift key down , press the insert key. Now
press enter. This will post your request to the room.
Now !DJ_Pixel will send you the song right away, or
you will be placed in his Que. Then you will have to
wait till a slot opens and the song sends to you. When
you download a song it will be placed in the MIRC/DOWNLOADS
folder
So
lets see if !DJ_Pixel has a mp3 list maybe he has other
songs we want. To get his list type @DJ_Pixel it should
auto send without any wait. Another good thing there
are normally instructions at the top of his list that
could be specific to the script he is running. * Note
* These commands work with any user that is running
mp3 script in IRC, just change the user name to their
nick.
